Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed & Something Blue

As the saying goes, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, this saying dates back to the Victorian era, yet many brides today still try to follow this saying when preparing for their wedding.

Something Old: this represents an item that symbolises something from the bride’s own family, generally her mother or grandmother. Usually the item would be a piece of jewellery, wedding veil, handkerchief, wedding gown or perhaps just a piece of the old wedding gown sewn into the new wedding gown such as lace or beads.

Something New: This item represents good luck and hopes for a bright futured. The new item could be anything purchased for the wedding day, wedding dress, jewellery, shoes, hair pieces, wedding flowers etc.

Something Borrowed: Borrowing an item off a friend or family member for your wedding is an important one, it reminds the bride that her friends & family will always be there to support her. The borrowed item is usually an item or jewellery.

Something Blue: This symbolises faithfulness, loyalty and purity. Today many brides wear a blue trimmed wedding garter, or a handkerchief.
